Cougars take a pass in Import Draft

The PG Cougars decided to not make a pick (even though they had the 15th overall selection) in the 23rd annual CHL Import Draft. The decision for the Cougars to pass means they will keep Slovaks, Martin Bobos and David Solteson their roster as the two Europeans.

–The Spokane Chiefs have signed head coach Don Nachbaur of Prince George to a two-year contract extension(through the 2016-17 season). Nachbaur will enter his 5th season with the Chiefs – and 16th in the WHL – with the upcoming 2014-15 season. Currently with 598 career coaching victories, he could become just the fourth WHL head coach to eclipse the 600-win mark, joining Ken Hodge (742), Lorne Molleken (603), and Don Hay (609). Hay, now with
the Kamloops Blazers, is the only active WHL coach ahead of Nachbaur in career wins. Nachbaur is a three-time winner of the WHL’s Coach of the Year award, most recently winning with Spokane following the 2010-11 season.

–The Anaheim Ducks signed goalie Jason LaBarbera of Prince George to 1-year deal for a reported $750,000. The 34-year-old LaBarbera has played in 182 NHL games with five teams (Rangers, Kings, Canucks, Coyotes and Oilers). He has a career record of 60-73-19 with a 2.80 GAA and .907 save percentage.
