Rainbow flag flying high at City Hall

If you’re passing by City Hall, you may notice the rainbow flag flying high.

Organisers and City Councillors raised it this morning in support of this weekend’s Pride events.

Pride Society’s Stacey Hewlett says it means a lot to have the City’s support.

“It shows that the people who make decisions in this community, for this community, are supportive of all of this community,” she says, “Just something as simple as a flag or a crosswalk or an acknowledgement really shows how progressive we are and where we’re headed.”

Mayor Lyn Hall was on hand for the flag raising and is looking forward to the parade this weekend.

“We (council) are going to be in the parade. We have the RCMP and firefighters and staff who want to participate in the parade so it’s become a very diverse group who participate in the pride parade,” he says.

The parade and festival start in the Veteran’s Plaza at 10 AM on Saturday.
