The Prince George Community Foundation hopes City Council will donate $25,000 for Canada’s 150th birthday grant program.
Combined with the Foundation’s own $25,000 contribution, foundation spokesperson Teresa Saunders says this will help with great events next year.
“The point is in these that they will have a huge impact right across out country, bringing people together to say ‘Canada is great’ and ‘our community is great’,” she says.
If Council’s chooses to support PGCF’s request, Saunders says the fund could grow into something huge.
“The people who, and the organisations that, apply for grants must also match those funds either in cash or in kind, so the real impact is $100,000 that will go back out into our community for projects that are important to the people of our city.”
Saunders had a few ideas about how to spend the money, like free concerts, and events with international residents and indigenous peoples.
Council has referred this request back to staff and will have a decision at a later date.
