100 years of rail transportation celebrated

The Railway and Forestry Museum is celebrating 100 years of rail transportation in Prince George over the next four days.

Admission to the museum will be free, and different special events will take place at the museum and around town.

Events Coordinator Julianna Weisgarber says without the railway, it’s questionable whether Prince George would actually be here as a city.

“One of the major reasons that people started moving here is because of the Grand Trunk Pacific in 1914. So it’s really helped to build the town that way, and of course it’s been really important in terms of getting forestry started and things like that as well in this area, because without transportation you can’t transport those goods and materials to and from this area.”

Weisgarber says today they’re holding a Community Fair, tomorrow there will be events with the Public Library, on Sunday they’re teaming up with the Legion for activities, and on Monday they’re holding an all-day film festival on railways.
