The Prince George Law Courts and Plaza 400 will soon be a part of the city’s Downtown Renewable Energy System.
With the help of John Martin, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Forests, Land and Natural Resource Operations, Mayor Lyn Hall made the announcement today at the International Bioenergy Conference and Exhibition.
The energy system uses Lakeland Mills residue to heat water, which is piped to businesses for space heating and domestic hot water. This is a much greener and cheaper option than burning fossil fuels or other energy sources.
By getting these two off gas boilers and onto the system, there will be about 480 fewer tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the city’s air every year.

The system currently serves nine buildings, including The Prince George Civic Centre, the Public Library, and the RCMP Detachment, and reduces CO2 emissions by more than 1,820 tonnes a year.
Construction will start in late July and will finish by early Fall.
In that time, traffic will be affected at Second Ave and George St., Fifth Ave. and George St., one block of Fifth Ave. between George St. and Queensway, and the intersection of Fifth Ave. and Queensway.
