UPDATE: Wandering ostriches located

UPDATE: Three ostriches escaped from Nest Egg Ostrich Ranch. All have now been located and will be returned home.

Here’s something you don’t see every day: there are multiple reports that an ostrich is on the loose near Chief Lake Road.

A photo of the wandering bird, initially thought to be somebody’s pet, was photographed at a property on Ranchland Road near Chief Lake this morning.

Animal Control Officer Amanda Reynolds has been deployed to wrangle the ostrich. She says she’s never heard of a call to collect an ostrich before in Prince George but says they should have no problem coping with the bird.

“We have contractors who haul livestock and we would most likely either take it to the SPCA or to a different local containment facility.”

Nest Egg Ostrich Ranch is located in the area where the ostrich was sighted. The ranch owners could not be reached for comment.

Ostriches can be dangerous, due to their size and ability to kick. If you see the ostrich, it is probably best to leave the bird alone and call Animal Control.

Something going on in the Prince George area you think people should know about?
