Prince George RCMP Superintendent Warren Brown is making a visit to council chambers next week to provide an update.
City wide crime statistics for the first five months of 2016 continue recent trends and show property crime continuing to inch upwards, while violent incidents drop. (see above)
Warren Brown will also give councillors an update on the area around 3rd and George Street. (see right)
Between 2011 and 2015, calls to that corner have climbed 22% to a total of 1,731 last year. From January to March of 2016, calls for service there have climbed 7% over the same period in 2015.
The most common complaints about the area are for disturbances and public intoxication.
Since 2011 the area has seen large jumps in drug offences (+159%), public intoxication (+85%) and disturbances (+64%). Violent crime and common assault fell 41%.
Brown’s report notes 2016 year to date stats indicate these trends are continuing.
Notably, the Prince George RCMP says about 25% all calls they receive across the city are unfounded and unsubstantiated non criminal situations.
