Prince George’s District Parent Advisory Committee has a new chair.
Gillian Burnett was elected at the committee’s annual general meeting earlier this month.
Now that her 4 year term is done, Prince George District Parent Advisory Chair Sarah Holland is stepping down but she will remain involved with the DPAC as treasurer.
“I find it very interesting what happens at the school district level and there’s certainly going to be a lot happening over the next couple of years within the school district that I would like to continue to be involved with at some level.”
She says PACs serve an important role in their communities.
“That’s always the tricky part, getting that parental link in there, not just having a parent teacher meeting twice a year or finding out how your kid’s doing when the report card comes home but looking at ways to get more of a partnership between the parents and the school board.”
Holland says the role of treasurer is a little less time consuming than that of chair and she’s looking forward to working with the committee’s new executive.
“We’ve got a real mix of people who’ve been involved for a while and people who are newly involved. I think that that’s just going to help us as we move forward with the future of the district.”
