Two young women have been chosen as valedictorians for UNBC’s graduating class of 2016.
“I’m pretty excited and obviously I’m pretty honoured too, to represent my graduating class,” says Haylee Seiter, who graduates with a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing. “The last five years have honestly been probably some of the best years of my life. I’m born and raised here in Prince George so I opted to stay close to home and go to UNBC.”
Her counterpart is Torrye McKenzie of Quesnel. McKenzie is graduating with a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Biomedical studies.
Seiter has nothing but good things to say about her time at UNBC.
“I would definitely highly recommend it. The coolest thing about UNBC is that there’s really this distinct sense of community and I really appreciated that when I came back from my exchange. When you leave a place, especially if you grew up here in Prince George, you kind of take it for granted.”
She began her time at UNBC as in art history then tried out integrated sciences before settling on business with a focus on marketing.
“I really explored all of my options and all throughout that process my professors and the staff, the advisors there were truly supportive and I wouldn’t be where I am today if they hadn’t supported me along the way. So I highly, highly recommend it. Obviously I’m a little biased but it’s a fantastic university. I have nothing but good things to say about it.”
As part of her schooling, Seiter took advantage of UNBC’s exchange program and spent a year at the Paris School of Business.
She spent a year on exchange at the Paris School of business. Seiter says she’s excited to get out into the workforce.
“Looking forward into the future, as a marketing major, I would love to work for a marketing agency. I’m really excited to really explore my field and find out what’s available.”
Seiter plans to spend the summer working for Northern Lights Estate Winery. She will also be participating in J’Explore, a 5 week French immersion program in Quebec City.
