Car 60 program enjoys successful first year

Over 600 mental health incidents were responded to by the Car 60 program last year according to Northern Health.

Director of Specialized Services with Northern Health, Aaron Bond says he couldn’t be more pleased to join forces with the Prince George RCMP.

“We were able to jump on an opportunity where they had stats showing a need and we really wanted to partner with them. It was all about how we could support people in a timely manner the right way.”

The local police responded to 1,037 mental health incidents in 2015 with the car program responding to a large volume of calls from April to December of last year.

An average of 16 individuals required intensive mental health and substance use support while just over 11 clients ended up in the hospital.
