Recognition for the Northern Capitals

BC Hockey has named Mario Desjardins of the Northern Capitals its 2015-2016 Female Midget AAA Coach of the Year.

Desjardins led the Capitals to a 21-6-3 regular season, a second straight Provincial playoff championship and first place in the prestigious Mac’s Midget AAA tournament in Calgary.

Two Northern Capitals, defenceman Victoria Byer (Williams Lake) and forward Sage Desjardins (Terrace) have been selected to the BC Hockey Female Midget AAA All-Star Team for the 2015-2016 season.

Byer was part of a Capitals defense that allowed just 44 goals against in 30 regular season games.

The 5’11 Byers tallied 12 points, including five goals and garnered Player of the Month honors in December.

She will play hockey for the Mount Royal University Cougars (CIS) next season.

Desjardins was the FMAAA’s second-leading scorer this season, tallying 36 points (17G, 19A) in regular season play.

She finished her FMAAA career as the league’s all-time leading scorer, with a total of 99 points (36G, 63A) in three seasons.

Desjardins will head to the University of Calgary (CIS) in the fall.
