Rally against Northern Gateway launches petition

Nearly 200 people gathered in downtown Prince George Thursday evening to protest the federal government’s approval of the Northern Gateway Pipeline.

One of the organizers, Peter Ewert with “Stand Up for the North” says they chose to protest outside of Cariboo-Prince George Conservative MP Dick Harris’ office to send a message to government.

Bob Zimmer, The other local MP, for Cariboo-Peace River has said that it’s up to Enbridge to win over public support for the pipeline, but Ewert says the feds have been deeply involved all along.

A petition was also launched at the rally and if it reaches 10% in each riding, a referendum will be called.
