Crews are making progress on two wildfires within the Cariboo Fire Centre, both of which have been human caused.
Fire Information Officer, Emily Epp says the one of the wildfires is about 3 kilometers south of Nazko (west of Quesnel). “That wildfire was been determined to be caused as a result of industrial activity and strong winds contributed to it’s spread.”
Epp says the 400 hectare fire near Nazko is about 60% contained, with 65 firefighters on scene today.
“The other wildfire that’s burning about 15 kilometers southeast of 70 Mile House is also suspected to be human caused.” Epp said
34 firefighters are battling the 70 Mile House blaze, which has grown to 26 hectares. However crews have that fire 75% contained.
The Cariboo Fire Centre says they have responded to 24 wildfires since April 1st, all of which have been human-caused with three due to illegal open burning.
