The local Advisory Accessibility Committee has big plans this year to make getting around Prince George easier for everyone.
The group is trying to align its infrastructure auditing with the city’s. This way, it can help make suggestions on where and how to improve.
While things like transportation is an important issue, Committee Vice-chair Heather Lamb says her first concern are the sidewalks.
“The problem is that, for some people, getting to the bus stop is the problem,” she says, “we do need to see improvements in curb cuts and pothole maintenance on sidewalks so that everybody can get to the bus stops safely.”
Councillor Susan Scott says it’s important to think ahead when considering accessibility concerns.
“I don’t have an accessibility need today. (I) guarantee I will tomorrow (and) guarantee that people who might want to come and visit my home will have issues. How am I responding?”
The committee is also working to make City Hall’s stairs easier to use.
