West Fraser planning to restart Quesnel MDF plant

The West Pince MDF plant in Quesnel which exploded last week will re-open when it is safe.

The President and CEO of West Fraser provided an update this morning.

Ted Saraphim says it won’t re-open until the company completes it’s investigation, determines what the root cause of what failed inside the MDP forming process equipment, and are confident they have a solution in place to ensure a similar incident can never happen again.

Saraphim says safety is a core value and business priority for West Fraser.

In the meantime, he says that all of their employees will remain fully employed as clean-up and repair activities are completed.

Saraphim also praised how the employees managed through Wednesday’s (March 9th) traumatic event and the aftermath.

He thanked the emergency services personnel, particularly the Quesnel Volunteer Fire Department, for how they responded to the fire.
