The Lheidli T’enneh First Nation received a woodland licence from the BC Ministry of Forest today.
In a release, Chief Dominic Frederick said he welcomes the license which will he believes will bring significant benefits to the Lheidli T’enneh community.
The license is the 4th of it’s kind issued since the province started the First Nations Woodlands licence program in 2011.
The program is intended to give First Nations a stronger role in forest and land stewardship within their traditional territories.
The licence allows the Lheidli T’enneh to harvest 25,000 cubic metres of timber per year from their traditional territory.
The agreement includes two parcels, covering 7,197 hectares, of Crown land near Tabor Mountain and Sugar Bowl – Grizzly Den Provincial Park.
