An industrial partnership announced this afternoon at the Bio Energy Conference takes east meets west to another level.
Gitxsan Bioenergy is a joint venture between a Hazelton-based group and South Korean investors to create a bio energy facility producing wood pellets.
General Manager John Bennet says the free trade agreement reached with South Korea opened up a new world of possibilities.
“Which have now come to fruition that has really brought this about. It’s our connection with Korea, and their technology and their financing, and the need for our product.”
Bennet says the facility is expected to be complete by 2015 and employ 40 full-time jobs for locals, with the potential of tens of thousands of related jobs elsewhere in the province.
