City bylaw keeping downtown business from reaching the next level

Prince George City Council has finalized amendments to a bylaw intended to reduce stolen property showing up in second-hand shops but is now said to hurt downtown business. Game Quest owner Kelsey Polnik says the “Second-Hand Dealers and Pawnbroker Bylaw” is forcing him to keep any new stock that comes in off the shelves for 30 days, which limits his ability to do business. He says he hasn’t taken any money from the store since the bylaw was introduced.

Another business near Game Quest had to stop offering its services due to the same bylaw, according to Polnik.

He says he has written to the city and has only heard back that staff is looking into his case.
