It was by a narrow vote, but Prince George City Council decided to rescind their controversial rental property licence.
Monday night’s vote went 5 – 4 in favour of eliminating a licence that would see rental suites shut down if they were deemed substandard to live in.
While half of council argued the bylaw would see substandard housing shut down, the other half debated that the rise in cost would be piled on to the tenants.
Councilor Dave Wilbur voted against eliminating the bylaw, and says the city is going backwards.
The city says those who have already paid are entitled to a refund.
