New partnership to help Northern BC students gain skills

Students in Northern BC will gain skills training courtesy of a Canada-BC partnership between both governments.

Minister of Jobs, Skills Training and Tourism, Shirley Bond says the additional opportunities will help fill several job vacancies within the next 10 years.

“When we look at the number of people who will be retiring and the age of our population plus our economic growth we do face the possibility of a million job openings.”

Over $1,000,000 in funding has been awarded to CNC’s Heavy Equipment Operator Program in Prince George and Mackenzie.

The remaining $92,000 is going to the Prince George Nechako Aboriginal Employment and Training Association for it’s Office Technology Program.

Over 1,400 students in BC will benefit from the skills training.
