Prince George sees drop in population

Despite all the positive things going on in Prince George over the past year, the city’s population seems to be going down.

Jackie Storen with BC Stats says the city has seen a decline since the 2011 census.

“Prince George’s population declined by 1,958 people or 2.7%. It went from a little over 73,000 to about 71,363.”

The next census is scheduled for May.

Storen adds the reason for the decrease was a drop in medical clients in 2014-15 and only a slight bump in hydro hookups.

The development comes despite 2015 being a strong year for housing starts in the city with 269.
