The UNBC Timberwolves are shocked along with the entire community on the sudden passing of local athlete Matt Pearce.
Athletic Director, Loralynn Murdoch says it’s a big loss for the school’s athletic community.
“It’s devastating news. Our condolences go out to his family, his wife, son and daughter have been apart of the school’s athletics since they were little and Matt was highly involved with our junior team as a coach.”
The Timberwolves honoured Pearce before Saturday’s men’s basketball game against UBCO.
He passed away early Saturday morning after officiating a senior men’s basketball game in Prince George.
Pearce won a Grey Cup with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers back in 1990 and is considered one of the best athletes Prince George ever produced.
