The MacEwan Griffins swept both men’s and women’s basketball doubleheaders against the UNBC Timberwolves Saturday at the Northern Sports Centre.
On the men’s side, they fell 72-70 despite going on a 29-8 run in the third quarter.
The Griffins scored the winning basket with 2.1 seconds remaining.
Austin Chandler led the T-Wolves in scoring with 18 points, including a 13-for-16 performance at the free throw line.
Billy Cheng and Rhys Elliott scored 17 points apiece for UNBC while Ryan May was the top scorer for the Griffins.
May made 9 of 13 field goals and was 5 of 6 from the free-throw stripe.

On the women’s side, the Lady T-Wolves once again battled hard for three quarters before MacEwan took over in the fourth to defeat UNBC 70-57.
Megan Wood lead the Griffins with a double-double after netting 24 points and 11 rebounds.
Maria Mongomo was the top scorer for UNBC with 19 points while Stacey Graham went 3 for 5 from beyond the arch after playing just 2 minutes the night prior.
Both UNBC teams will head to Abbotsford next weekend and face the Fraser Valley Cascades.
