UNBC kicks of Integrated Wood Design program at WIDC

Students entered in UNBC’s Master of Engineering program began day 1 of classes at the Wood Innovation and Design Centre today (Tue).

Professor, Guido Wimmers says the one year graduate program covers a wide range of fields.

“We are combining structural engineering with building physics sustainability because we are convinced engineers have to have a decent understanding of all the different aspects in the industry.”

Wimmers adds having the course at WIDC is the perfect environment and student Chelsea Olson says the program peaks her interest.

“I was always interested in wood design and then I feel the program fills a void where it is not just number crunching, it covers the whole process of using wood as a construction material.”

Stephanie Wood is also enrolled in the 12 month course and believes it will fit her desired career path.

“Environmental engineering is my background which is pretty broad and I wanted to narrow in on the civil side of the field and had an interest in wood design.”
