PG's unemployment rate up in May

Jobs numbers are out for the month of May, and Prince George’s unemployment rate went up compared to last year.

Last month the unemployment rate was at 5.5 percent, compared to 4.5 percent in May of 2013.

Statistics Canada’s Vincent Ferrao says Prince George is still better than the provincial average.

“The rate is 6.1% this May, and that’s down by 0.5 percentage points. So it would have been 6.6% a year ago.”

Ferrao says although our unemployment rate increased, there were more people working compared to last year.

He says there were 3 thousand more people working this May compared to last May.
