A prolific Prince George offender is awaiting his time in court after attempting to escape police on Tuesday afternoon.
40-year-old Neil Hamel allegedly led police on a chase after failing to pull over on Upland Street.
A red Pontiac Sunfire blew past a stop sign at Upland and Ferry, heading towards Queensway.
Police deactivated their emergency equipment to pull over after the Sunfire dangerously passed a truck on its right side.
Shortly after that, the suspect vehicle collided with a full size pick-up truck and continued its flight- despite heavy damage.
The car pulled onto Moyie Street towards Village Avenue, cut through someone’s front lawn, and collided with some boulders.
The Sunfire slowed down as it turned down Village Avenue towards Norwood Street.
The driver went straight through the stop sign and into another front yard, this time hitting a snowbank.
The suspect was able to free the vehicle and drive towards a dead-end on Norwood street, but accelerated towards a cement barrier at the end of the street.
The vehicle struck the barrier and came to rest on top.
Police Dog ‘Azar’ helped RCMP subdue the suspect after he tried to fight police officers and reached for something in his pocket.
Officials seized two knives from Hamel, and the resulting investigation led to the discovery of meth, heroin, cash, drug trafficking equipment, and homemade weapons.
The suspect was taken to hospital with minor bite wounds, and will appear in court to face flight and possession-related charges later today.
