The Red Cross and First Nations Health Authority are celebrating newly trained Medical First Responders in Prince George.
24 Aboriginals from around Northern BC volunteered to take part in the 11 day intensive First Nations First Responders training program.
“I really admire their dedication because they’re volunteering to do this” said Instructor Paul Stone. “They’re here for 11 days including the exams and they’re doing it night and day.”
Mason Abou of the Kwadacha Nation traveled 14 hours from Fort Ware to take the course in Prince George.
“We’re so isolated and the medical services that we have are so limited” said Abou. “Just having a couple more trained people in our community, it benefits us.”
Over the past year, the first nations first responders program has trained 118 people province wide.
