The Polaris Montessori School will see some big upgrades completed in the near future.
The SD57 board voted to pass two bylaws to release up to $130,00 for the school to update heating and ventilation in the gym, as well as up to $100,000 to bring the fire protection system up to code.
Trustee Bruce Wiebe says the changes would have been made with or without the provincial funding.
“Building codes get modified over time, and Gladstone School, which was the original building, has been closed for a while, and has only been rented out to a few groups before the Montessori school moved in. So now, with a school in there, the fire protection system really needs to be upgraded.”
These upgrades were included in the list of five capital projects submitted to the Ministry of Education’s Routine Capital Maintenance program in mid September.
They must be completed in March of 2016.
The board also set dates for public budget meetings.
After discussing the merits of condensing the matter to two meetings, or drawing it out to three, the board settled on two sessions on April 4th and 20th.
Trustee Sharel Warrington was the only one to note her opposition.
