Rural residents are looking to BC Housing for assistance with funding a new senior’s facility.
A study done in partnership with UNBC shows nearly 50 units will be needed over the next ten years.
“People who have moved into town say they want to be the first ones on the list to come back out here,” says Sunrise Ridge Senior Housing Society Vice-Chair Birthe Cisecki. “These people don’t want to live downtown. They’ve lived out here all their life, all of their friends are out here, everyone they socialize with is out here.”
The group has identified an ideal piece of land for the project, and say they have first bidding rights if they can secure funding from the government.
The parcel of land is work is valued in the $112,000-$120,000 range… A very attainable price- if the society can get the funding.
“We’re assembling a business plan and trying to get people on board to help us develop the plan. Then it has to be presented to BC Housing,” explains Cisecki. “We’re outside City limits, so there won’t be funding there.”
The group will be voting in a new board at its AGM on December 6th.
