When legion members began laying flags on veteran graves several years ago, workers realized many vets who weren’t buried in their designated section.
Cemetery Coordinator Sandy Hewitson says they decided to begin building a veterans database…
“Now when we do burials we ask if they are veterans so they can be added into our database. Where we run into problems is when veterans are buried with our family and cannot be identified as such.”
Hewiston estimates roughly three thousand veterans are buried in the cemetery.
People with a veteran parent or family member interred at Memorial Park are asked to contact the cemetery to add to the database.
