Nemethy excels with bronze medal run

For the first time a Nechako Valley runner has placed in the top three at a Provincial X –Country Championship.

Grade 9 student Simon Nemethy captured the bronze medal in a field of 210 runners at the High School Provincial X-Country Jr. Championships at Jericho Beach in Vancouver.

Nemethy ran the muddy five km distance in 18 minutes and 4 seconds.

He finished 23 seconds behind the silver medalist (Kalum Delaney of Reynolds Secondary) and 24 seconds back of the gold medalist (Jaxon Mackie of Earl Marriott).

In the team competition (out of 23): Nechako Valley took 15th in Jr. Girls and 16th in Jr. Boys.

The top female runner from Prince George was Robyn Barwise of PGSS who was 46th in the Jr. Girls race.

The top male from Prince George was Isaac Goodrich of College Heights Secondary who came 55th in the Sr. Boys race.
