PG sees bump in jobless rate

The unemployment rate in Prince George is up from October 2014.

Stats Canada Labour Market Analyst, Lahouaria Yssaad says the jobless rate edged up two percent.

“In October 2014 it was 4.6 in Prince George and it went up to 6.6 in October 2015.”

She says the working age population saw a sharper decline.

“It was 72.9 percent at this time last year and fell to 66.9 percent this year.”

BC gained 23 thousand jobs last month which ranked second to Ontario who netted 29 thousand new jobs.

The province also saw a spike of 20 thousand in youth employment which dropped their jobless rate from 13.5 to 10.9 percent.

48 thousand people currently have a job in Prince George compared to 52 thousand at the same point in 2014.
