The Prince George Community Partners Tackling Homelessness continue to address the issue of people living on the street.
Coordinator, Kerry Pateman says the demographics surrounding the issue has changed quite a bit.
“It used to be your 20 to 40 year old male. That’s not the case any more, we see a lot of young families, youth that are in shelters and we even see more seniors.”
Pateman adds finding affordable housing is only half the battle.
“I think one of the biggest issues is not just finding them a place to stay but the support they need to stay housed.”
49 people were chronically homeless in Prince George last year according to Service Canada while the periodic homeless count was 224.
The figures come after Ontario set a 10 year deadline province-wide to end the issue.
