Two Prince George businesses have snagged nominations for this year’s Small Business BC Awards!
Game Quest has made the list for a second year, and looking for a first-place finish after making the top five last year.
Owner and Manager Kelsy Polnik has some big plans for this winter as well…
“We’re renting out the Prince George Playhouse for December 5th, and we’re going to have some huge video game tournaments and speed runners all in the theatre seating with a huge projector. All of the funds are going to go to the Child Development Centre.”
Since 2013, Game Quest has worked to improve the visibility of gamers in PG, while increasing entertainment options in town.
Past events include partnering with the public library for a retro day for teens, and providing the gaming area at Northern FanCon.
On the other end of the spectrum, Persian Restaurant Shiraz has been nominated for the first time.
The local favourite boasts the title of Northern BC’s First Persian Restaurant, and owner Reza Akbari says he is honoured to have been nominated by a customer.
“It’s so great to see that people want us to be here, and want us to continue. They did whatever they could do to bring people to our doors, and introduce them to a new culture.”
His nomination on the Small Business BC website shows great faith from his customers:
“Shiraz is the only place that I feel the real warm hospitality of middle east, and touch of diversity in Northern BC. It was interesting for me when people in Prince George meet a foreigner or some one who came for business in town, they always refer them to Shiraz. Reza is a very hard working man, and you can see and feel his passion as soon as you enter to the restaurant. After few visit and learning about his life story, I am not surprise why he is popular person in PG.”
It’s something Akbari has seen from the start, since Shiraz opened in 2012.
“It was unbelievable overwhelming, the reception from everybody! It was unreal… I truly believe in the strength of community in Northern BC. I say that to everyone.”
Voting is open until November 30th, and links to vote for each business can be found below.
