The Prince George BC-SPCA Spay and Neuter Clinic is celebrating ten years!
On Friday, the clinic is holding free tours and information sessions, along with prizes and a barbecue.
Clinic Manager Cari Ito worked for the local shelter for seven years prior to moving to the clinic, and says things have come a long way since her start at the shelter.
“Back then there was just animals everywhere, there were puppies and kittens constantly… Now that I’ve started working here, it’s slowed down a lot. The actual animal shelter has far less homeless animals, the whole area is far lower in terms of disease, especially Parvo and Distemper. There used to be huge outbreaks every year. But since we do low-cost vaccinations, there is far less disease in the area.”
She adds the spay and neuter program lowered costs for accessibility.
“Since the cost is much more reasonable, people can get this essential service done, and they’re not choosing between rent and having the animal spayed.”
To date, the Clinic has spayed or neutered nearly 30 thousand animals.
The celebration runs from 10am to 2pm at the clinic tomorrow, with the BBQ taking place from 11am -1pm.
