$158,000 distributed to various projects in northern BC

Six projects across northern B.C. received funding through the Nechako Kitamaat Development Fund.

“These diverse projects that range from supporting preparations for wildfires, improving health and wellness services for young people and building economic resilience all help make life better for these communities,” said Diana Gibson, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation.

In Fraser Lake, the Fire Rescue Training Society was granted $18,347 for a second Structure Protection Unit trailer.

The Village of Burns Lake received $50,000 for a solar energy system, consisting of 300 solar panels, on the roof of the Tom Forsyth Memorial Arena.

$25,000 is going to Carrier Sekani Family Services for furniture at their new Burns Lake Foundry.

Pit toilet replacements at the Eagle Creek Fair Grounds south of Burns Lake are getting $10,072.

The Lakes District Fair Association received $4,675 to install electrical power in the sheep and swine barn allowing for lighting and electrical outlets for fans during heat waves or when wildfire smoke is dense.

$50,000 was given to the Haisla Nation to help purchase an in-vessel composting unit.

In total, $158,094 was given out by the fund this year with the applications for the next rounds of funding open until March 31st and July 31st.
