WHL:

The Prince George Cougars have signed Jaxon Larmand (08) to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.

The 16-year-old forward from Prince George is playing this season with the Cariboo Cougars, who host the Okanagan Rockets this weekend in the BC Elite Hockey League U18 championship series.

Larmand racked up 57 points, (28 goals) in 36 regular season games and has added seven points (4 goals) in five playoff games this season.

The PG Cougars host the Victoria Royals to close out their regular season Friday and Saturday.

The (40-20-4-2) Cougars have won nine of their last 10 games and have the fewest home regulation losses in the WHL (with a 23-4-3-2 record at CN Centre).

Prince George leads the B.C. Division by two points over the (37-17-3-7) Royals but Victoria has two games in hand.

The Royals visit the (24-36-4-1) Kamloops Blazers tonight (Tuesday) and the (17-42-4-2) Kelowna Rockets on Wednesday.

The Cougars will start the playoffs at home on Friday, March 28th and Saturday, March 29th against either Portland, Vancouver or Tri-City.

Playoff tickets go on sale Wednesday afternoon at 2:00.

The (19-25-4-1) Prince George Spruce Kings are four points behind the (19-22-8-1) Langley Rivermen for the 8th and final playoff spot in the BCHL Interior Conference.

Prince George has five regular season games left and Langley has four remaining.

The Spruce Kings visit (26-17-5-2) Coquitlam Friday night at 7:00, (32-12-5) Chilliwack Saturday night at 6:00 and (29-17-4) Surrey Sunday afternoon at 3:00 before closing at home with a doubleheader against (9-35-5-1) Powell River March 29th and 30th.

The Rivermen visit (13-35-2) Blackfalds Friday and (17-27-6) Spruce Grove on Saturday before closing at home against Coquitlam March 28th and Chilliwack March 9th.

BC Elite Hockey League:

The Under-18 Cariboo Cougars host the Okanagan Rockets in the BC Elite Hockey League best-of-three final.

Games will be played at Kin 1 Friday night at 7:45, Saturday night at 4:45 and if needed Sunday morning at 10:45.

The winner goes to Alberta for the Pacific playdowns April 4th-6th.

The Under-18 Northern Capitals will visit the Greater Vancouver Comets in the best-of-3 female championship hockey series.

The games will be held in Coquitlam Friday night at 5:00, Saturday night at 5:45 and if needed Sunday afternoon at 1:00.

NHL: (5 Monday games with 2 Canadian teams in action)

The Vancouver Canucks host the league-leading (47-17-4) Winnipeg Jets tonight at 7:00.

It is one of 9 Tuesday games in the NHL (with Toronto the only Canadian team idle).

The (31-25-11) Canucks are tied with the (33-28-7) St. Louis Blues for the 2nd and final wild-card spot in the Western Conference, two points ahead of (30-25-11) Calgary and
(30-26-11) Utah.

Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals host the Detroit Red Wings tonight (4:00.

The 39-year-old Ovechkin is 8 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s NHL career record of 894.

The (44-15-8) Caps have 15 regular season games left.

World Cup Ski Cross:

25-year-old Gavin Rowell of Prince George had a career-best 6th place finish in the men’s FIS Ski Cross World Cup race Saturday in Collingwood, Ontario.

Canadian athletes finished with silver and bronze in both the men’s and women’s races.

NBA:

The (24-45) Raptors conclude a 4-game road trip Thursday night at 7:00 at Golden State.

Toronto, with just 13 games left, is 5 1/2 games out of the final play-in spot in the Eastern Conference.

The world women’s curling championship continues until the final on Sunday in South Korea.
