WHL:

The Prince George Cougars put a 4-game winning streak on the line when they visit the (21-31-7-1) Wenatchee Wild tonight (Wednesday).

This is the start of 4 road games in 5 days for Prince George.

They will visit Wenatchee again on Friday, the Everett Silvertips Saturday and the Vancouver Giants Sunday (in Langley).

Wenatchee is three points behind Seattle for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. 

The (35-19-4-2) Cougars are second in the B.C. Division, five points behind the (36-15-3-6) Victoria Royals with both teams having 8 regular season games remaining.

The Cougars schedule includes four games against Wenatchee, two against Victoria and one each against Vancouver and Everett.

The Royals schedule includes two games each against Vancouver, Spokane and Prince George, and one each against Kamloops and Kelowna.

Victoria will host Spokane Friday and Saturday.

The Prince George Spruce Kings host the Langley Rivermen Friday night at 7:00 and Saturday night at 6:00.

The (18-24-3-1) Spruce Kings are three points behind the (17-20-8-1) Rivermen for the 8th and final playoff spot in the BCHL Interior Conference.

Both teams have eight games remaining.

The (27-22-11) Vancouver Canucks start a 4-game homestand tonight (Wednesday) at 7:30 against Anaheim.

It is one of 5 Wednesday games in the NHL.

Vancouver is two points behind the (29-23-9) Calgary Flames for the 2nd and final wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals host the New York Rangers this evening.

The 39-year-old Ovechkin is just 11 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s NHL career record of 894.

The (39-14-8) Caps have 21 regular season games left.

BC Elite Hockey League: 

The BC Elite Hockey League quarterfinals start this weekend.

The first place (26-6-3-1) Under-18 Cariboo Cougars host the last place Thompson Blazers in a best-of-3 series at Kin 2.

Games will go Friday night at 6:00, Saturday night at 5:45 and Sunday morning at 11 if necessary.

High School Basketball:

The B.C. High School Boys Basketball Provincial Championships tip off today (Wednesday) and continue until Saturday in Langley.

16 teams are entered in each tournament.

PGSS lost today (Wednesday) and is 0-1 in 4A.

College Heights participates in 3A.

Nechako Valley competes in 2A.

Cedars Christian, Northside Christian and Houston Christian are entered in 1A.

Last week the Langley Events Centre hosted the Girls Basketball Provincials.

Duchess Park finished 4th and College Heights 6th out of 16 in 3A.

Nechako Valley ended up 15th and Hazelton 16th in 2A.

Cedars Christian placed 5th, Bulkley Valley Christian 8th and Fort St. James 13th in 1A.

 

NBA:

The (20-42) Raptors start a 4-game homestand Friday (4:30) against the Utah Jazz.

Curling:

Defending champion Brad Gushue is 5-0 at the Montana’s Brier which is featured this week in Kelowna.

The final is set for Sunday.

The winner will represent Canada at the world men’s curling championship in Moose Jaw from March 29th to April 6th.
