The Cougars erased a 2-0 second period deficit to extend their winning streak to four games.

There were 5,490 fans at CN Centre for Cougars Fight Cancer night with the 50-50 Mega Jackpot surpassing $126,000.

The (35-19-4-2) Cougars are second in the B.C. Division, five points behind the (36-15-3-6) Victoria Royals with both teams having 8 regular season games remaining.

The Cougars schedule includes four games against Wenatchee, two against Victoria and one each against Vancouver and Everett.

Prince George will visit Wenatchee Wednesday and Friday before playing in Everett Saturday and in Langley against Vancouver on Sunday.

The Royals schedule includes two games each against Vancouver, Spokane and Prince George, and one each against Kamloops and Kelowna.

Victoria will host Spokane Friday and Saturday.

P.G. Cougars sniper Borya Valis has signed a 3-year entry level contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The 20-year-old Valis has 30 goals and 74 points in 58 games this season.

The (18-24-3-1) Spruce Kings are three points behind the (17-20-8-1) Langley Rivermen for the 8th and final playoff spot in the BCHL Interior Conference with both teams having eight games left, including two against each other.

The Spruce Kings host Langley Friday night at 7:00 and Saturday night at 6:00.

The (27-22-11) Vancouver Canucks, coming off a 6-3 Saturday loss in Seattle, start a 4-game homestand Wednesday night at 7:30 against Anaheim.

Vancouver is tied with the (28-23-9) Calgary Flames for the 2nd and final wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

Alex Ovechkin had the Washington goal in the Capitals 3-1 Saturday loss to Tampa.

The 39-year-old Ovechkin is just 11 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s NHL career record of 894.

The (38-14-8) Caps have 22 regular season games left, including a game tonight (Monday 3:30) against the visiting Ottawa Senators.

BC Elite Hockey League: 

The first place Under-18 Cariboo Cougars will host the last place Thompson Blazers in the BC Elite Hockey League quarterfinals.

The (26-6-3-1) U-18 Cougars face the Blazers in a best-of-3 series at Kin 2 (as a speedskating event will be held the same weekend at Kin 1).

Games are scheduled for Friday night at 6:00, Saturday night at 5:45 and if needed Sunday morning (March 9th) at 11.

High School Basketball:

Prince George and Northern B.C. teams competed at the B.C. High School Girls Basketball Provincial Championships in Langley.

16 teams were entered in each tournament.

Duchess Park finished 4th and College Heights 6th in 3A.

Duchess lost the bronze medal game 68-57 to Vernon.

Nechako Valley ended up 15th and Hazelton 16th in 2A.

Cedars Christian placed 5th, Bulkley Valley Christian 8th and Fort St. James 13th in 1A.

The (19-42) Raptors will visit (29-33) Orlando again Tuesday (4 PM) to conclude a 4-game road trip.

Curling:

The Montana’s Brier is taking place this week in Kelowna with the final set for Sunday.

The winner will represent Canada at the world men’s curling championship in Moose Jaw from March 29th to April 6th.
