After a narrow defeat on a non-confidence motion put forward by the BC Conservatives leader and Nechako Lakes MLA, John Rustad is looking towards the upcoming budget.
Rustad pointed towards the throne speech, the direction of the government, deficit and lack of vision, saying the NDP’s are running out of ideas, and need a change of government.
Putting forward the non-confidence motion was also a promise made by the Conservatives following the election results.
He says the leading government has failed on promises made ahead of the budget.
“There was a promise by the NDP to give $1,000, per family, immediate relief. Well, they didn’t fulfill that.”
“The second thing they promised is to bring forward and make the tax relief permanent, and now they’re saying they’re not going to do that. They, unfortunately, have gaslit the province and the people in this province, and to me, that’s unacceptable.”
Rustad says he isn’t expecting a whole lot of innovative approach with the budget, adding the drug problem, crime, affordability, housing, and healthcare are getting worse.
Another issue Rustad’s wanting to tackle is provincial trade, which he’s put a bill forward for, similar to the one in Nova Scotia to debate next week, and challenging the Premier to implement it.
He says it’s to remove barriers to trade across the country, adding that this work can’t just be in words, but has to be in action.
The provincial budget will be released Tuesday.
