Big Brothers Big Sisters encourage people to wear pink today

Prince George will be a bit more pink today.

It’s the 12th annual Pink Shirt Day in the City, with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern BC (BigsNBC) raising money for youth programs through sales of pink items including shirts, hoodies, and toques.

Executive Director, Jill Styan talks about the meaning of wearing pink.

“I do think as people if we’re wearing it [pink], we want to be models, just by brightening somebody’s day.”

“I feel like kindness, sometimes is just as simple as if you think a kind thought to share it, and opening a door for someone, or being as considerate as you can possibly be to the people around you.”

Styan notes it’s important to be educated on what bullying is, as it sometimes gets thrown around to one-time unkind acts.

She says bullying is more of a targeted, repeated, and purposeful attack, and using a word like that matters.

Pink items can be found at participating locations today, with more information on BigsNBC’s website here.
