Rachelle Brown of Smithers lands third Scotties championship with Rachel Homan rink

Smithers-born curler Rachelle Brown was a part of history at the 2025 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Serving once again as the fifth/alternate for Rachel Homan’s Ontario-based rink, the team went undefeated for a second straight national championship after defeating Kerri Einarson and her Manitoba rink 6-1 in Sunday’s final.

No team has ever one with Scotties two straight years without losing a game.

Until now.

Brown served in the same capacity for Homan during last year’s Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Calgary, which the team defeated Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones, who is now the team’s coach.

In addition, the Smithers product also helped Canada capture its first World Women’s Curling Championship in four years defeating Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni in Sydney, Nova Scotia last spring.

Homan’s team, which also consists of Sarah Wilkes (lead), Emma Miskew (second) and Tracy Fleury (third) is rated number one in both the national and world rankings.

Brown took up the sport at the Smithers Curling Club at age 11, carving out a playing career that has spanned 27 years.

Brown won the 2019 Scotties Tournaments of Hearts representing Alberta.

The team was comprised of Wilkes, Dana Ferguson, and skip Chelsey Carey.

In addition, Brown also won back–to–back silver medals with Val Sweeting’s Alberta rink at the Scotties in 2014 (Montreal) and 2015 (Moose Jaw) and a bronze in 2021 with Laura Walker – a tournament played with no fans in Calgary.

Homan and the rest of her team will begin its quest for a second consecutive world championship in South Korea March 15-23.
