Prince George Airport Authority announce human trafficking awareness program

The Prince George Airport Authority launched its latest program, tackling human trafficking.

Work to implement the program began last year after former CEO, Gord Duke attended a conference where the initiative had been presented.

Interim President and CEO, Sabrina Angus says after Duke met with the program founder, Paul Brandt, the team at the airport began developing what it could look like here.

“It made a real impression on him at the time. Other Canadian airports have been participating in this initiative over the last several years, and there’s millions of travellers that pass through our airport. This is an important place to be raising the awareness.”

Yellow stickers shaped as flowers with the tagline #NotInMyCity have also been placed at different high traffic spots in the airport for travellers to get more information by scanning a QR code.

Mayor Simon Yu said the City will probably look to have more of the yellow flowers in other buildings such as hotels to better the awareness and education surrounding the issue.

The Airport Authority noted human trafficking being one of the fastest growing crimes in Canada, with 93 per cent of reported victims being Canadians trafficked domestically.

More information can be found on the program’s website here.
