Ness Lake Bible Camp will be offering 75 Van Bien and Nusdeh Yoh students a free week of camp this year.
“We are thrilled to offer this opportunity again this year,” said Ness Lake Bible Camp Director Dave Horton.
“Fort George Church has a heart for their community and the families in it. Their desire is to see kids have the best week of their summer. They raised over $12,000 at the Polar Bear Dip to help make that happen. McDonald’s, Canadian Tire and Vista Radio joined on as soon as we reached out. It’s humbling to serve at a camp that has so much local support.”
He added the rest of the Polar Bear Dip funds raised this year would go towards general sponsorships.
“The hope of the camp has been that every kid gets the opportunity to come to camp to try it out,” Horton said.
“It’s a week of independence, it’s a week where they’re away from their usual systems, their usual supports, it’s a week of making their own choices, it’s a week of building friendships, it’s a week away from screens and that’s a huge deal, especially in this day and age, and we see the change in kids from the start of the week to the end of the week.”
On March 1st from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, the Camp will be hosting a registration event at the Fort George Baptist Church.
Horton said the 75 camp sponsorships will be first-come, first-serve.
“There’s about 300 students between those two schools,” he said.
“What happened last year with the Hart sponsorship when we did this as well, we ran a first-come, first-serve, and then we started a waitlist, and then as people backed out of their weeks, if plans changed or they had to move or whatever it was, or even as more funds came in, that’s where McDonald’s came in last year and kind of saved the day and sent more kids to camp even after the sponsorship was all handed out.”
Horton added the camp will continue to fundraise so they can send more kids to camp.
