Relief from the cold finally coming for Prince George area

After a couple weeks of below normal temperatures in the Prince George area, temperatures will be going the opposite direction this week.

“This arctic airmass that’s been sitting over our province with a ridge of high pressure is going to start to shift eastward, being replaced by flow coming off the Pacific with a series of systems coming through,” said Environment Canada Meteorologist Alyssa Charbonneau.

“It means we’re going to see temperatures, which have been quite a bit below seasonal, warm up to above normal temperatures by next weekend. It’s also going to bring some precipitation as well.”

Charbonneau said that will include snow and possibly some rain towards the end of the week.

“None of these systems are looking overall very heavy in terms of precipitation,” she explained.

“Kind of between Wednesday and Thursday we’re looking at maybe two to four centimetres of snow. As we get into the latter part of the week and potential to see some rain there in the daytime hours as temperatures are above freezing, it does not look to be a significant amount of rain.”

Charbonneau added if the ground stays below zero, there’s potential for freezing rain towards the end of the week, but it’s a little bit early to see it in the forecast.
