Caledonia Nordic hosts second leg of Teck BC Cup

A bit of cold weather forced some adjustments at the Teck BC Cup event being held at Otway this weekend.

“It’s nice that it’s warmed up today (Sunday), we had to delay the start to noon yesterday (Saturday), but with the sun that was out, I think everybody had a good race yesterday,” said Media Liaison Kevin Pettersen.

Pettersen noted they can’t race under temperatures below minus 15.

“The teams have all the waxes to adjust for the snow temperatures, and everything like that, it’s just part of the sport to be racing in colder temperatures,” he explained.

“We don’t want to get too cold to risk injury to lungs and things like that.”

This weekend’s event at Otway is one of three parts of the Teck BC Cup.

“There’s two Teck BC Cups, we’re holding the second one and then there’s the BC Championships,” Pettersen said.

“Basically they’ll gain points from each of the provincial cups, and then the championships and that will help for them to either qualify for the national competitions.”

This weekend’s event saw racers of all ages in categories ranging from U8 all the way up to Masters (60+).
