UNBC has named the keynote speaker for one of their largest annual fundraisers.
Kim Phuc will be speaking at the annual Dr. Bob Ewert Memorial Lecture.
The event is presented by the Northern Medical Society, the PG Community Foundation and Northern Health along with UNBC to raise money for the Northern Medical Programs Trust.
“At age nine, she was photographed running up a road with her skin on fire.” said Katherine Scouten with UNBC. “Her photograph is really one of the most unforgettable images of the last century and helped change public opinion around the Vietnam war.”
As an adult, Phuc is a renowned public speaker and runs the Kim Phuc Foundation which provides help to child victims of war.
“She really does bring a message of peace and forgiveness and how we move forward from tragic events that happen to us” said Scouten.
The Northern Medical Trust has provided more than 450 grants to support students at UNBC pursuing rural health care efforts.
