The Women’s Memorial March took place in downtown Prince George yesterday (Friday) afternoon.
The three hour event began at 12:30 at the Native Friendship Centre, where they marched to the Courthouse, arriving shortly after 1:00, where drumming was held, followed by speakers.
Speakers then introduced how the day began in 1992, after an Indigenous woman was murdered in Vancouver’s downtown eastside.
“Since that time, we know not only in Vancouver, but here, in the Highway of Tears, we’ve faced the murder and missing women, children, men LGBTQ Two Spirit people over many many years.”
Other speakers shared their learnings and experiences, with the event wrapping up at around 3:30.
