BC Recycling Council set for Waste Reduction Week

The Recycling Council of BC is challenging residents to track their trash.

As part of Waste Reduction Week in the province, the organization is encouraging schools, businesses and residents to try and reduce the amount of garbage heading into landfills.

“We’re really great in BC at reducing our waste, but there’s always room for improvement” said Information Manager Harvinder Aujala. “We really want people to take a look at the garbage they’re producing and the habits they have to try and make less waste across BC.”

She says there are numerous ways to cut down on trash.

“When you’re at the store, make sure that you are purchasing items that come in reduced packaging or that it is recyclable before you buy it” said Aujala. “Take a look at the sharing economy. How about borrowing or renting something that you only use once or twice a year instead of owning it?”

Aujala says she hopes the event will show residents how easy minimizing their trash can be.

Waste Reduction Week runs until October 25th.
