42 indoor shelter spaces open in Prince George

42 new indoor shelter units are available in Prince George, with the opening of the Third Avenue Homeless Encampment Action Response Temporary Housing Project.

“We’re building supportive homes and shelters to help people get on a better path to living full, healthy lives,” said Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs Ravi Kahlon.

The residents are those who have been living in community shelters long term, or have been sheltering outdoors.

The Province, through BC Housing, provided approximately $4.1 million for construction of the project, and will provide annual operating funding of $2.1 million.

In total, the BC Government says more than 200 supportive homes, shelter spaces, culturally supportive homes and homes for seniors are opening or starting construction.
